Growing Sustainable Pre-School Gardens throughout St. Louis region
The St. Louis Metropolitan area has both a high rate of childhood obesity and numerous families struggling to provide healthy and nutritious food options to their children. Our project strives to raise awareness for childhood hunger in our community, to increase the amount fresh and healthy produce available at food banks and at childcare facilities, and to educate youth on the benefits of gardening and eating fresh produce while making a sustainable impact in our community. We activate and engage youth in building. planting and maintaining produce gardens at low-income pre-schools, shelters and elementary schools. We donate all the produce to families-in-need and local area food banks.
